Troy Burne Recap

Hudson, WI - The skies cleared after a couple of inches of rain on Saturday, the humidity dropped, some, a gentle breeze and warm temps greeted golfers at one of the Tour favorites, Troy Burne. Extra holes were needed in 2 flights.

Troy Burne #10
Jason Rhoades - Champ
Jason Rhoades and Greg Lanctot posted matching 74s at 3 over. Matt Broich held the lead at the turn with a 38. He put up a 39 on the back while Jason came in with a clean 35 and Greg shot a 1 under 34 on 2 birdies. It took only one playoff hole for Jason to claim his 2nd win in the Championship flight when Greg's par putt lipped out.

Jeff Gallagher - Palmer
The Palmer flight needed 2 extra holes. Jeff Gallagher and Steve Schubert held a one shot advantage over Mike Kelley after nine holes. Mike put up a double on the 10th but only one other bogey on 15 gave him a 77. Steve birdied 12 but suffered triples on 14 and 17 to post 79. Jeff had a double on 14 as well with 2 more bogies coming in to match Mike at 77. Both made par on the first playoff hole. Jeff closed the deal on the 11th with a birdie.

Benjamin Grant - Hogan
Ben Grant continues his domination of the Hogan flight with a 7 shot victory. He lead by 4 at the turn and a birdie on 18 led to a back nine 39 to post an 80 for his 4th win this season.

Daniel Barrett - Sr. Hogan
Dan Barrett's front side 41 was the difference in Sr. Hogan. Steve Buan could only match Dan's 45 on the back giving Dan his 3rd win of the season and qualifying him for Sr. Nationals.

Matt Harter - Sarazen
The Sarazen flight saw Matt Harter stroll to his 3rd win of the season. His front side 41 followed by a 42 on the back gave him an 8 shot advantage. Matt will be making travel plans for Innisbrook this week.

Douglas Bird - Sr. Sarazen
The best story of the day had to be Doug Bird. He flew home from India arriving Saturday not feeling well. He leaves the course today with the Sr. Sarazen trophy for his 82, closest to the pin prize and the 50/50 purse.  Steven Holland's back to back birdies on 12/13 put him one shot back.

Ms. Vicki Burns - Jones
The Jones/Snead flight was pretty tight after 9 holes. Paul Alexander birdied #8 to turn 1 shot ahead of Vicki Burns and Tim Palya. Tim made 2 more birdies on the back but suffered a triple on 18. Vicki made a birdie on 15 to bounce back from a double on 14. Her back nine 41 gave her a one shot margin over Tim.

I have to give props to all players today. Our lead groups finished in a shade over 4 hours and the final group came in under the card time. Thanks for the great pace.

Special thanks to the two guests who joined us for this tournament. Thomas Terhark and Howard Lederer both played in the Palmer flight. We hope to see you out on Tour in the near future.

It was also nice to see Bob Schunke of Sioux Falls. Thanks for making the long trip.

The $145 for Feherty's Troops First Foundation puts us at $1110 for the season. Thank you for your continuing support.

Our next event is Baker National on Aug 7th. Registration deadline is this Saturday. We hope to see you there.

If you haven't looked at our schedule lately please note the Tour Championship @ The Wilds dates are 8/27-28. Please register as soon as possible so I can hold enough spots.

As always thanks to Mary, Deb and Val for making everything run so smooth. I couldn't do it without them.
