Bunker Hills Recap

Coon Rapids - Overnight rain gave way to a beautiful, warm and humid, mid-summer day. There is so much activity at and around the Bunker Hills complex. We weren't the only tournament today as the PGA section ran a Jr. event as well.

Jeff Gallagher
The Palmer flight produced the most compelling competition of the season needing a 3 way playoff after matching 75s. Mike Kelley took the early lead with a 37 on the front featuring a birdie on the 4th. Jeff Gallagher started with 4 pars and a birdie but then ran off 3 bogies on the front side to turn in 38. Mike French and Marcus Williamson shot 39s to setup the chase on the North course. Mike French posted a clean back nine. Jeff stumbled at the turn going 4 over in the first 3 but added 3 birdies and 3 pars to shoot 37. Mike Kelley started the back side with a birdie but he hopped the bogey train for 3 stops in the middle of the inward half to shoot 38. Marcus also shot 38 to miss the playoff by 2 strokes. Jeff's par on the first playoff hole was all that was needed to determine the winner.

Pete Rojas
Pete Rojas is the first MN Tour member to 4 wins with his 9 shot victory in Snead flight. His front side had only one "other" on the card and he lead from the 2nd hole. Pete made two pars on the back side to card a matching 47 using his Srixon Z Star ball.

Caleb Fisher
The Hogan flight came down to the last hole between Jon Balvance and Caleb Fisher. Caleb suffered several doubles on the front but mixed in 4 pars to go out in 44. Jon Balvance turned in 45. Jon Balvance doubled the 10th and the 13th while Caleb carded 5 bogies making them even through 14. At 15 Caleb took the lead but he made bogey on 17 bringing them back to even. Jon made a solid par on 18 but Caleb finished like a champion with a closing birdie to seal the deal on his first victory.

Paul Alexander
Paul Alexander and Vicki Burns were both at 44 when they made the turn in the Jones flight. Paul gained a couple shots through 14 and they matched scores on the card from there. His 2 shot victory is his third this season qualifying Paul for the Sr. National Championship.

Daniel Barrett
Dan Barrett earned his 2nd win of the season with a one shot victory over Steve Buan in Sr. Hogan. Dan's 2 shot lead at the turn disappeared on the 10th hole but he steadied the ship with 6 pars and only 2 bogies on the way in. Steve's birdie on 17 certainly made the 18th interesting where both made par.

Matt Harter
Steve Springer had a one shot lead after 9 holes over Ed Favorite and another over Matt Harter. Steve and Ed both suffered 2 "others" on the back nine while Matt made 3 pars and 6 bogies to finish 1 better than Ed for his 2nd win in Sarazen.

Jason Rhoades
Jason Rhoades and Nicholas Demuth went mano y mano in Championship flight. Jason had a 3 shot lead at the turn. His even par inward nine gave him a 76 for his first win.

Matt Harter takes home the 50/50 raffle again worth $125. I suspect we will see some new shoes in the future. Our total year to date is $925 for Feherty's Troops First Foundation. Thank you for your continued support.

Joe Swierczek and Jeff McVay took home the prize for closest to the pin.

Thanks to Deb and Val for their help.

Our next event is Saturday in Ames, IA at Coldwater Golf Links. Registration closes tonight.

The next local event is Troy Burne on the 24th. Registration deadline is Saturday the 16th. Another great place to bring a guest.
