StoneRidge Recap

Stillwater - Not a cloud in the sky...because the 25-35 mph wind blew them all away. Putting in that wind, on some of the fastest greens we play, led to higher scores.

StoneRidge GC #11 - the Barn hole

John Juntilla
Once again the Championship flight was won by John Juntilla, his 3rd of the season. His 83 is a testament to how difficult the wind made the round. 3 double bogies on his card are something rarely seen. A birdie on the par 4 13th which was straight into the wind was probably the highlight of the round. Nice to have Matt Broich back on tour.

Peter Heller
The Palmer flight was a bit of a survival of the fittest. Darren Kress, our newest member, led by 2 at the turn over Eric Broich, Steve Schubert and Brian Winter. Darren avoided doubles and Brian offset 3 doubles with birdies on 6 & 9. Darren suffered his first double on the 10th and carded a birdie on the long par 3 16th before stumbling with 8s on the last two holes. Brian birdied 11 but had a double and a triple. Steve doubled 10 and birdied 15 before going 6 over on the last 3. Meanwhile, Peter Heller, who had been 4 shots back after 9, got through the difficult 10th through 13th with pars. He limited the damage at the end of the round to bogeys on 14-18 to capture a one shot victory, his first of the season, over Eric and Brian. It took a scorecard playoff to determine which got the 2nd place prize.

Jon Balvance
Jon Balvance was the only Hogan player to get through the front nine without a double or worse. He held a 2 shot lead over Caleb Fisher who had birdies on 6 & 8. Like many others Jon had difficulty with the 10th but he followed that triple with a birdie on the 11th only to suffer another triple on 13. Caleb's back nine damage was limited to 2 doubles to match Jon at 46.

Dan Barrett Sr.
Dan Barrett's 44 in Sr. Hogan gave him a 2 shot lead at the turn. His birdie on 9 softening the blow of back to back triples. Robert Gardner limited his damage to 4 doubles on the front but the 10th put him in a hole he couldn't recover from. Dan also struggled with the 10th but with only one other double on the back he increased his lead to 3 over Steve Buan who birdied the Barn Hole.

Fredy Alvear
Matt Harter held a one shot lead after the front side. Fredy Alvear stumbled on 1 and again on 4 but his 3 pars kept him within one. Fredy went 5 over through 10 & 11 to drop one more shot behind but then played pretty steady to better Matt by 5 on the back nine for his second victory.

Steven Holland
Steven Holland grabbed the lead with a birdie on the first hole and never let go. He had a 2 shot lead at the turn over Douglas Bird who had back to back birdies on 7 & 8. Warren Ferber also had back to back birdies on 10 & 11, the best of any player in the tourney. Ed Favorite had the better back nine in the Sr. Sarazen flight but Steven's lead was never threatened.

Paul Alexander
The Jones flight was a knock down drag out fight between Paul Alexander and Jeff Loeffler except they were in different pairings so neither knew what the other was doing. The difference was Paul's birdie on the 3rd hole. Paul's 88 was his second victory in a row and with the same winning score. Apparently it's his lucky number. Welcome to Dr. Paul Cink who played his first Tour event.

Pete Rojas
Pete Rojas qualified for Sr. Nationals with his 3rd victory in the Snead flight. He led Jeff McVay by two shots after 9 holes and extended the lead to win by 9.

Fredy Alvear, Steven Holland and Pete Rojas took home a dozen Srixon golf balls of their choice for winning with Srixon.

John Juntilla and Pete Rojas won the closest to the pin contests.

Matt Harter won the 50/50 raffle worth $155. That puts our total year to date at $800. Thanks to everyone for your support of Feherty's Troops First Foundation.

Special thanks to Mr. Dennis Draack, father of Tour player Jeff Draack, for joining us at StoneRidge. We hope you had a good day.

Our next event is July 10th at Bunker Hills where we will play the West and North courses. Registration deadline is this Saturday the 2nd. Please register before heading out of town for the holiday weekend.

Have a happy and safe 4th.
