Dellwood CC Recap

Dellwood - What a great opportunity to play a beautiful private course. Players have been raving after practice rounds about the speed of the greens. "Stay below the hole" has never been more true than here. A special thanks to the staff and membership for allowing us to play their wonderful course on a fantastic Sunday afternoon. They were so gracious and welcoming.

The beautiful new clubhouse

John Juntilla
The round of the day was turned in by John Juntilla who shot even par 72. He took a 3 shot lead on the front countering one bogey with a birdie on the 9th. While he had 3 bogies on the back side he matched them with birdies on 13, 14 and, in true championship form, #18. His fellow competitors said his putter was hot. John recently received a "Journey to Better" performance promotion to the Sr. Championship flight. He wasted no time proving he was a force to be reckoned with by beating the young guns in the Championship flight. Mac Saby and newcomer Jason Rhoades tied second at 80. John's promotion also qualifies him for the Sr. National Championship at Innisbrook in September.

Steve Schubert
The Palmer flight had it's share of good scoring as well. Steve Schubert and Brian Winter both shot 40 on the front side with both suffering a double on the 5th hole. Steve made a birdie on the par 3 twelfth to settle his round and card a 79 for his second win in a row. Peter Heller's birdie on 18 earned him a runner up finish.

Benjamin Grant
The early lead in the Hogan flight was held by Anthony Hugelen shooting a 43 on the front to give him a one stroke lead over Benjamin Grant who has dominated the flight this season. Benjamin wasn't about to be denied his third win however and his back nine 40 gave him a comfortable 5 shot victory at 84. Benjamin is now qualified for the National Championship.

Michael Erickson
Michael Erickson made the most of his long trip from Iowa to snag his 2nd win of the season in Sr. Hogan shooting an 84. His round featured 2 birdies. Dan Barrett was 2nd at 88.

Matt Harter
84 was also the winning score in Sarazen flight. Fredy Alvear took the early 1 stroke lead over Matt Harter. Both made birdies on the par 3 fourth hole. Matt's triple on the 7th was the difference. Fredy stumbled with doubles on 10 and 11 while Matt carded bogies. Matt made birdie on the par 3 twelfth with a tee shot that won closest to the pin to pad the lead. Fredy ran out of holes to catch up and finished 2 shots behind.

Steve Springer
Sr. Sarazen flight saw another tight contest. 3 players were tied at 43 after 9 holes with a fourth only one shot back. Steven Holland and Steve Springer carded matching 46s on the back to tie at 89.  Steve Springer was able to break the deadlock on the first playoff hole for his first win on Tour.

Paul Alexander
Jeff Loeffler avoided big numbers to jump out to a 2 shot lead over Paul Alexander and Vicki Burns in the Jones flight with a front side 42. Paul limited his second 9 mistakes to 2 double bogeys while Jeff carded 2 "others" on the back 9. Paul's matching 44 on the back gave him the 2 shot victory.

Pete Rojas
Pete Rojas earned his 2nd win of the season with a 10 shot victory over Todd Klocke in Sr. Snead. Pete's 92 was his best round in 2 years.

Nicholas Demuth won the other closest to the pin.

Special thanks to our annual visitors from Byron, IL. Keith Mavity and David Rush.

David enjoyed his trip a bit more as he took home the 50/50 raffle prize of $150. Our total for this season stands at $645 so far. Thank you all for your continued support of Feherty's Troops First Foundation.
