Sr. National Championship Final Day

La Quinta - the 2015 National Championships are history and history has been made by MN tour member Warren Ferber. Warren played well all week in Sr. Jones never lower than 3rd place and under the intense pressure of being in the hunt. His final round of 80 on the toughest course in the rotation (Stadium) was his best of the week and was the best of the day in the flight. Warren jumped way out front with a dream start making birdies on 3 of the first 4 holes and making the turn in 38. He had 3 pars and 6 bogies on the back nine but most importantly nothing worse than bogey. His scoring average for the week was 85.75. He made 5 birdies, 22 pars, 32 bogies, 11 doubles and only 2 others. In addition to the trophy Warren received $750 in Golfsmith gift cards, a Srixon staff bag, a Club Glove travel cover and his name on the perpetual Am Tour Sr. National Championship trophy. He is also perpetually qualified for all future Sr. National championships. And as a result of beating everyone in Sr. Jones he has been promoted to the Sr. Sarazen flight for the 2016 season. Warren and Amy are taking the red-eye back home tonight. I'm sure Warren won't need the airplane seat. In his post round interview Warren was asked if there was a special place or plan for the trophy at home. He answered that the plan was to fill it with peanut M&Ms. We hope he will bring the trophy, with the M&Ms, to our next event. Congratulations Warren. I'm sure all MN tour members share in that sentiment.

John Juntilla was also in the hunt today in Sr. Palmer. He shot a 1 under 35 on the front side of the Palmer course including 3 birdies and an eagle on the par 4 8th. He added a birdie on the 11th. John admits that he ran out of steam a bit in the late day heat. He finished the final 3 holes 7 over for a 79. Fortunately he had another 3 shot cushion over 4th place. He takes home $550 in Golfsmith gift cards and is qualified for 2016 Sr. Nationals at Innisbrook next fall. Yours truly finished T30 after an 84.

Dan Barrett shot a final round 86 in Sr. Hogan on the Norman course. His round included 2 birdies. He finished in 74th place. Dean Dubreuil carded a 99 with one birdie and winds up 143rd.

The Sarazen six swapped a few spots around today on the Nicklaus course. Steven Holland shot an 85 to finish T56. George Hardgrove finished with a 92 to place T59. Ed Favorite posted a 90 for T92. Douglas Bird shot 89 for T101. Paul Alexander posted a 91 for T110 and Mike Miller matched his low round of the week with a 109 for 147th.

Todd Klocke finished 62nd after a final round 114.

This wraps up two weeks in the desert for me. It was great having 21 MN tour members here. I hope to someday see all of you at a National Championship.
