Fall Championship at TPC Twin Cities Recap

Blaine - OMG. Missed it by a day. 85 on Sunday and then Monday happened. 31 players toured the TPC course in the cold, wind and rain. The fireplace in the bar was a very popular spot after the round

John Juntilla didn't seem to be bothered by any of that as he posted an amazing 5 over 77. He had difficulty with the front side during the worst of the storm with 5 bogies but he had two birdies to offset a double for even par on the back side. Mike Kelley had the lead after 9 with only 3 bogies on the front. Mike finished at 80 only three shots back.

New member Benjamin Grant of Rochester wasted no time earning his first victory in Hogan flight. His 89 featured a birdie on the par 3 eighth hole. Nate Plagge showed he just needs a little adversity to play good golf. Like everyone he struggeld on the front side but posted a 42 on the back on the strength of 2 birdies for second place.

The Sarazen flight needed extra holes to determine a winner. Matt Harter and Fredy Alvear finished 18 tied at 90. Fredy held the lead at the turn due to a birdie on the par 4 seventh. They were back and forth on the back nine holes and Fredy held onto the slim lead until he suffered a quad on the 18th. Fredy made a par on the 2nd playoff hole to capture the victory.

Warren Ferber began his new season in Sr. Sarazen as the reigning Sr. Jones National Champion and got off to a pretty good start leading Mike Miller by a shot and Douglas Bird by 2 at the turn. He made a birdie on 13 but stumbled on 18 with a few penalty strokes. Douglas Bird had his big trouble on 12th hole but added a birdie on 16th and made a par on the 18th for a 2 shot win.

The Jones flight was a tight contest with only 4 shots between first and last place. Paul Alexander and Hobie VanValkenburg shared a 2 shot lead after nine holes. Paul made a birdie on the par 5 3rd hole. Jeff made a birdie on the par 3 17th which proved to be the difference in his one shot victory over Paul.

Pete Rojas and Todd Klocke went mano y mano in Sr. Snead. Pete won the front 9 by a stroke and padded his lead by 3 more on the back with a par on the 17th.

Ben Savage and Hobie VanValkenburg won the closest to the pin contests.

New member Jeff Draack won the 50/50 drawing worth $120 (check is in the mail). Thanks to all for your support of  Feherty's Troops First Foundation.

Thanks to Val Loeffler for her help as always.
