April Update

Spring is here to stay. I hope you are getting the opportunity to enjoy this early good weather. There are a number of things to make you aware of today.

1) Our local tournaments are now open for registration. If you haven't looked at the schedule lately it is now complete. I've added a tournament at The Jewel in Lake City on June 28 and moved StoneRidge to July 26. The tournament at TPC in October will not open for registration until September after Nationals as it's officially a 2016 event. When you successfully register for a tournament you will receive an email from the system telling you your registration has been sent to me for approval. I will not accept your registration until one week prior to the event so your credit card will not be charged until then. You will then get another email telling you your registration has been accepted.

2) Even though we are just coming out of hibernation the last two majors of the season opened for registration today. As always if you are interested you should sign up as soon as possible as the majors sell out quickly. There are still a number of the other majors available.

3) You should now begin posting your non-Tour rounds played in MN to your scoring record on our system. If you also use another handicap service provider please remember that all of your scoring records should reflect the same index. If not please take the time to add any missing scores to bring them back into sync. TIP: always make sure the PAR & SLOPE ratings are the same in addition to the score. If you use GHIN, you should enter the ratings shown there into our system using Manual mode. Similarly, when entering Tour tournament scores into your other scoring records you should match the ratings we show on your scoring record within our system. Call me if you have questions. If you make an entry error within our system please send an email to gcatsupport@golfchannel.com requesting they remove the incorrect score(s). If you make an error in another system you will need to contact that systems administrator.

MN Am Tour members played in 16 events last month getting a jump on the season. Jeff Gallagher made the most of his two starts winning the KC Tour opener at Stone Canyon in Palmer flight shooting an 80 to win by a stroke. This past weekend he joined 4 other MN Tour members at the Western Masters in Palm Springs at PGA West, the site of this years National Championships. Jeff shot a 77, featuring 3 birdies, on the Nicklaus Tournament Course on Saturday to share the lead by 2 strokes. He shot 82 Sunday on the Stadium course for a 2 stroke victory. I'm sure the 2 early doubles on the front side were worrisome to him but he knew others would succumb to the diabolical Pete Dye layout. He birdied the par 5 eighth but doubled the ninth to turn in 42. He steadied himself on the back side to claim the victory and qualify for Nationals.

Warren Ferber also qualified for Nationals in the same event by virtue of his 3rd place finish in the Sr. Jones flight. Warren shot 94 on the Nicklaus Tournament course good enough for a tie for 5th after one round. His 87 on Sunday was the second best round of the day in Sr. Jones which vaulted him into 3rd place. His round featured a birdie on the par 5 fifth hole.

Congratulations to both Jeff and Warren for punching their tickets to Nationals!

Will you be joining them? A reminder that the eligibility requirements have changed a bit this year. You must play a minimum of 6 tournaments, 2 of which must be after May 31.
