Loggers Trail Recap - VanValkenburg Records First Ace in MN Am Tour History

Stillwater - it's was a little better today. Not an all day rain but the threat of rain all day. Our best day ever has got to be just around the corner.

Speaking of best days. New member Hobie VanValkenburg of Woodbury scored the first ever hole-in-one in a MN Am Tour event. He used a 5 iron on the 168 yard 6th hole (dead into the wind). The ball hit the green about 40 feet right of the pin and rolled left according to Matt Harter who is the only person to actually see it go in the hole while standing on the 7th tee box. Hobie plays out of Stone Ridge GC and he tells me this is his 10th ACE. He says he's the luckiest golfer he knows.

Nathan Petersen nearly lapped the field with a 14 shot victory shooting 75 in the Championship flight. His round featured birdies on holes 5, 10 and 18. He was so excite to gain his third win to qualify for Nationals that he registered before leaving the golf course.

Mike Kelley also wrapped up qualifying for Nationals with his 3rd win of the season in Palmer flight. His 76 barely nudged out hard charging Jeff Gallagher who shot 35 on the back nine.

Mark Benedetto of Sioux Falls and the KC tour earned his 3rd win on the MN tour this season (and qualifies for Nationals) with his 4 shot victory in the Sr. Hogan flight.

In the Sarazen flight, Matt Harter shot 85 for his 4th win of the season.

The Sr. Sarazen flight went to a playoff between Steven Holland and Dan Barrett. Both shot 81 in regulation. Steven's par on the 1st extra hole secured the victory, his 2nd. He'll be on a mission at the next event to try to win his third and qualify for Nationals.

Vicki Burns earned the win over David Doherty in the Jones flight. Her front side 43 gave her just enough cushion to hold on to the slim margin of victory. She too is qualified for Nationals.

Todd Klocke finally broke the stranglehold Mike Miller had on the Snead flight. He took a one shot lead on the front side with back to back birdies on 6 and 7 and stretched it to three shots over Mike on the back side.

George Hardgrove won the 50/50 raffle worth $95 which means the other $95 went to the Troops First Foundation raising our total to $610. Thank you for your support of this initiative.

Our next event is Sunday Aug. 10th at Troy Burne. The registration deadline for our Tour Championship at the Wilds is this coming Friday Aug 1st.  Please register for both this week.

As always my special thanks to Deb Alexander, Mary Addleman and Val Loeffler for their help.
