Willingers Recap

Little Chicago - at 2:30 in the morning it didn't look or sound good.  At 8:00 AM it was raining all the way to the course.  And it rained even harder as the last group teed off.  But from then on it got a little clearer as each hour passed.  Hard to believe we got the round in.

Despite the rain and wet conditions there were some pretty good scores on a very tough course.

Mike Kelley, Palmer, and Marc Redman, Sr. Palmer, both shot the low round of the day with 79s to win their respective flights.  Mike's back nine 37 propelled him to a three shot victory.  Marc's front side 38 featured 2 birdies and he added another on the back for a 9 shot victory.

Mike Miller battled Pete Rojas in the Sr. Snead flight.  They were tied after the front nine.  Pete jumped ahead on the first couple of holes on the back side but suffered a setback on 15.  He bounced back on 17 with a birdie but ran out of holes for his comeback.  Mike's steady play earned him a three shot victory which is also his third tournament win in a row.
Steven Holland earned his first victory in Sr. Sarazen with a one shot victory over Paul Alexander and Dan Barrett.  His birdie on the 8th hole turned out to be the difference.

Matt Harter found himself in fourth place after the front nine two shots back of veteran Fredy Alvear. Both played 10-13 in three over par. Fredy finished the final 5 holes 6 over while Matt hung tough and finished the same stretch in only 3 over.  His 42 was good enough to earn the one shot victory, his second of the season.

Keith Mavity who was visiting us from Byron, IL again this year held off Cindy Miller in her first event and Warren Ferber for a two shot victory.  Keith and Cindy were tied after nine. Warren matched Keith on the back but it wasn't enough.  Keith says he'll be back for another event or two later this season. I'm sure Warren and Cindy look forward to the rematch.

Another regular visitor took home the hardware in Sr. Hogan.  Dr. Mark Benedetto of Sioux Falls and a member of the KC tour found himself down by a stroke to Johnnie Adams after the front nine.  Mark's back nine 42 earned him a 3 shot victory.  We hope we'll see Mark back later this season as well.

Dan Geske earned his second victory of the season with a one shot victory in the Championship flight.  Matthew Foehse had a one shot lead after 9 holes.  Dan Barnhouse and Dan Geske shot matching 41s one shot better than new member Sydney Jackson in his first event. Mathew and Sydney shot matching 42s on the back. Dan Geske was only 2 over through 17 but suffered a double on 18 while Dan Barnhouse was 4 shots back before his final hole birdie made things interesting.

Our next event is Chaska Town Course on SATURDAY June 14.  The registration deadline is this Friday night or the first 32 players so sign up soon.

Congratulations to all 8 winners and my thanks to all who participated.  As always special thanks to Deb Alexander and Mary Addleman for their invaluable help.
