Tanners Brook Recap

Forest Lake - Light rain on the front nine and cloudy skies for the back nine made for a tough day on the difficult Tanners Brook Golf course. But that didn't stop Am Tour players from posting good scores. Before the recap though we need to recognize one remaining item from our 2017 season.

Steven Holland received MN Tour Player of the Year honors. His 3rd place finish in Sr. Sarazen at our Sr. National Championship propelled him to the top of the points list. Steven also received a plaque for his hole-in-one during the third round of the Sr. National Championship on the Pete Dye Resort course at the Westin Mission Hills. Congratulations Steven!

Steve Schubert playing in his first tournament since earning a promotion to the Championship flight shoots the low round of the day with a 78. He went out in 34 with 3 birdies for a 6 shot lead. Steve stumbled with 3 doubles on the back but held on for the 1 shot victory over Jason Rhoades.

Nathan Petersen and Dean Sengstock, both recently moved to Palmer flight, were tied after 9 holes at 42. Nathan's birdies on the 11th and 18th holes sealed the deal by 5 shots.

The Hogan flight was won by one of the Sr. Hogan players and local resident Dan Barrett. I'm sure the pressure was on to produce a good score on his home course when he made the turn one behind Matt Harter. The back nine gave everyone some trouble but Dan's 45 was good enough for a 2 shot win over Darren Kress.

Nate Plagge makes it 2 wins in a row in Sarazen flight. He begins the 2018 season the way he finished at the 2017 Tour Championship. His front side 38 gave him the 6 shot lead he needed to hold off the other Tanners Brook regular, Jon Sanz, who posted a 39 on the back nine to make it interesting.

Sr. Sarazen flight featured 3 of the visiting Olichwier brothers doing their best to take home some more of our hardware but Ed Favorite had his sights set on the prize. He went out in 42 to lead Jerome by 3 and although he posted 3 doubles on the back he held on for a 2 shot victory.

Mike Miller held off the 4th Olichwier brother by 10 shots but it was only a 1 shot lead at the turn over Jeff and Pete Rojas. Mike bettered his front side 45 by one on the back to shoot 89. Mike also won at the 2017 Tour Championship shooting an 88 on the last day so it looks like he's on an upward trend.

It was great to have our friends from the Chicago area join us at Tanners Brook. Rodney Woodard, Jerome, Jack and Jeff Olichwier as well as Jim Olichwier from St. Croix Falls, WI. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Steve Schubert won $125 from the 50/50 drawing in support of David Feherty's Troops First Foundation. Thank you for your continuing support.

Mike French and Paul Alexander took home closest to the pin prizes.

Our next and final tournament of the Fall Series is at Ridges at Sand Creek on October 15th. Registration deadline is this coming Saturday night, the 7th.

As always, my thanks to Mary, Deb and Val for their dedication and support. I couldn't do it without them. They decided they are going to call themselves Bruce's Angels and had a little fun with that idea. Gotta love 'em. Thank you Angels.
