Dakota Pines Recap

Hastings - A mostly picture perfect day on a beautiful old school golf course. We had a short delay for lightning but everyone finished ahead of pace.

Pete Rojas earned his 2nd win in Sr. Snead this year in a runaway with an 87, his lowest tournament round of the season. He held a 12 shot lead at the turn and nearly doubled that on the back side. This makes 3 seasons in a row with multiple wins.

Photo: John Juntilla posted the low round of the day with a 76 in the Championship flight. He birdied two of the par 5s and limited the damage on the difficult backside par 3s to bogeys.

Photo: Senior Sarazen flight needed an extra hole to determine a winner. 2015 Sr. Jones National Champion Warren Ferber had a 2 shot lead after 9 holes over Steven Holland, Ed Favorite and George Hardgrove. Steven Holland had trouble with the par 3 15th and gave Warren another 2 shot cushion but gained the two shots back on the 16th and then one more on each of the finishing 2 holes to force the playoff. After waiting out the short rain delay Warren made a par on the first playoff hole for his 2nd win of the season.

Photo: Sarazen flight also needed an extra hole. Jon Sanz shot 44 on the front for a 2 stroke advantage over Jeff Loeffler and Tim Palya. Jeff limited his mistakes to bogeys on the back side to catch Jon. John only needed the first extra hole to collect his 2nd win of the year.

Photo: Darren Kress punched his ticket to our National Championship with his 3rd victory in the combined Hogan/Sr. Hogan flight but it wasn't easy as he was up against Robert Gardner, a 3 time winner in Sr. Hogan. Robert held a 2 shot lead at the turn. Darren made up the difference in the first 3 holes on the back then picked up another on 14 and 16 before giving one back on 18 to hold on for the one shot victory.

Photo: In the combined Palmer/Sr. Palmer flight local boy Kyle Gangelhoff held a 1 shot lead after 9 over Bob Murphy (Sr. Palmer) and 2 shots over Mike French. Mike limited the back nine damage to a single double bogey to capture his 3rd victory of the season. Mike was already qualified for Nationals by virtue of his top 3 at BlackWolf Run.

Jon Sanz also took home $115 from the 50/50 raffle. Our year to date total now stands at $1,310. Thank you for continuing to support Feherty's Troops First Foundation.

Closest to the pin prizes went to Paul Alexander on #9 on John Juntilla on #6.

Our next event is our Tour Championship at Troy Burne on the 26th & 27th. If you can't play both days, register and drop me a note telling me which day you can play. Cost for one day is half.

Thanks as always to Deb, Val and Mary for making me look good.
