The Wilds Recap

Prior Lake - Perfect day, good pace and great scoring. What more could you ask for?

Once again a Sr. Sarazen shoots a new personal best! Ed Favorite, a long time tour member, went out in 39 with a birdie on #8 and then comes in at even par 36 with birdies on #12 and #16 to card the second lowest score of the day at 75 and a 10 shot victory. His previous best Am Tour score was a 79 last year for the win at Baker National.

Another 75 showed up in the Hogan flight. Dean Sengstock birdied #2 and didn't put a blemish on the card until the always tricky par 3 seventh hole. Another bogey on #8 rocked the boat a bit before making par on the 9th to steady the ship for a 1 over 37.  He cruised to a 7 shot win, his 2nd, with only 2 more bogey's on the back side at 11 and 17.

Jason Rhoades posted the low round of the day at 73 in Championship flight to win by 4 over Greg Lanctot and Nathan Maas, a guest visiting from Las Vegas. A clean front side with a birdie on #8 followed by another on the 13th offset the 3 bogey's. Jason's 3rd victory this season qualifies him for our National Championship.

The Palmer flight looked like a 2 horse race after nine holes. Mike French had a 1 stroke lead over Steve Schubert. Meanwhile Kyle Gangelhoff, who was 4 strokes back at 43 after starting out double and quintuple, played the remaining 16 holes at 2 under to shoot 77. Kyle would come up one short of a Jordan Spieth like comeback as Mike French birdied 12 and 17 to come in with a 38 for 76 . Mike's one shot victory is his 2nd on the season.

Sydney Jackson took the early lead in Sr. Palmer to lead by 3 over Bob Murphy and Cliff Anderson at the turn. Bob birdied #10 and came home in even par with only one more bogey to post a 77 and claim his 2nd victory in a row by 5 shots over Cliff and Sydney.

In Sr. Snead Pete Rojas shoots a nice front side 44 but only has a 1 shot lead over Steve Oborn. The back side took it's toll on both players. Pete carded 4 "others" while Steve limited the damage to doubles. His 97 gave him his first Am Tour victory by 5 shots.

Tim Palya ran away from the Sarazen field with a 39 on the front to lead by 5. A triple on 10 didn't hurt him much and the birdie on 12 bookended by pars on both par 3s looked like he was going to have smooth sailing to the house. Jeff Loeffler was 8 shots back at the turn and a double on 10 didn't help him make up much ground. He played the next 4 holes at 1 under with a birdie on 13. Tim played the last five holes 10 over while Jeff was only 5 over in the same span for a 42 and a total of 89 to fall short by 2. This is Tim's 2nd on the season. Both wins were with a score of 87. Apparently his magic number.

Playing on his home course, Gary Braun shot 40 on the front to lead Robert Gardner, Steve Buan and Dan Barrett by 2 in the Sr. Hogan flight. New member MJ Graphenteen was 2 further back at 44. MJ her last 5 holes in 1 under for a 40 to post 84 and hold the clubhouse lead at the time. Robert Gardner made a well timed birdie on 15 which helped him survive a double on the final hole to post 83 and win back to back with his 3rd on the season which qualifies him for Sr. Nationals.

Sr. Jones was a small field but still had plenty of drama. Joe Favorite, Ed's brother and a guest, led Mitchel Gustin, visiting from Story City, IA, by 5 and Paul Cink of Sioux Falls, SD by 8 after nine holes. Mitchell made 4 pars on the back side to card a 43 and a 4 shot win over Paul and Joe.

Cyrus Whitney, from the AZ tour, took home closest to the pin with a near ace on #11. Ed Favorite was closest on #3.

Pete Rojas was still all smiles when he found his name was pulled in the 50/50 drawing. $205 is added to our total which now stands at $1,195 for the season. Thanks for your continued support of Feherty's Troops First Foundation.

Thank you to the 7 guests who played with us at The Wilds. We hope to see you out on the Am Tour in the near future.

Our next tournament is Aug. 6th at Dakota Pines, formerly Hastings CC.
