Willingers Recap

Northfield, MN - The best day of the past week, sunshine and a breeze. 46 players took on the difficult yet beautiful Willingers GC for the Tradition Cup. We were fortunate to again host several visitors from other tours. Thanks to Mr. Edward Gill of La Jolla, CA, Navy Lt. Laurel Gill of San Diego, CA and Mitchell Gustin of Story City, IA for joining us.

Todd Klocke - Sr. Snead
Todd Klocke is the first MN Tour player to notch 3 wins in this 2016 season. Todd jumped out to an 11 stroke lead at the turn in Sr. Snead. Pete Rojas carded birdies on #4 and #15 for SKIN$.

Ms. Vicki Burns - Jones
Vicki Burns throttled the rest of the Jones flight winning by 13 strokes. She shot a very steady 44/45 for an 89. Jeff Loeffler steadied himself on the back nine with a 47 to place in 2nd.

Steven Holland-Sr.Sarazen
The Sr. Sarazen flight continues to be hotly contested but Steven Holland is 2 for 2 this season. His 40 on the front side set the tone for the day. His 5 shot victory puts him 1 win away from the Sr. National Championships.

Fredy Alvear - Sarazen
The Sarazen flight also had a large margin of victory. Fredy's 12 shot win came from an even par start on the first 4 before a couple of hiccups on #5 & #9. Nothing worse than bogey on the back sealed the deal.

Michael Erickson - Sr. Hogan
Michael didn't waste any time getting used to the Am Tour experience and wins his first event. Robert Gardner had the lead after 9 but Michael's 45 on the back gave him the 3 shot victory & a nice ride home to IA.

Jeff Draack - Hogan
Jeff Draack earns his first win on Tour. Anthony Hugelen held a 2 shot lead at the turn but Jeff was 5 better on the back aided by a birdie on #15. Looks like more great competition is ahead for the Hogan flight.

Steve Schubert - Palmer
Steve Schubert wins in his 2nd Palmer event since returning to the Am Tour. It took the low round of the day to hold off Dean Sengstock. They both shot 39 on the front. Steve shot a 40 on the back helped by 2 birdies to shoot 79.

Mac Saby - Championship
That smile says it all. Our newest member also wins his first Championship flight event. Mac Saby's 2 birdies on the front gave him a 2 shot lead on the front while he and Greg Lanctot matched 40s on the back nine.

Michael Burgett wasn't particularly happy about his round but his ride home was better because he won $200 from the 50/50 raffle supporting Feherty's Troops First Foundation. We sit at $495 year to date. Thank you for your support.

Jeff Draack and Matt Harter won the closest to the pin contests.

20 MN Tour members will be headed to Kohler, WI to play at the BlackWolf Run major this coming weekend. You can keep an eye on their progress via the website or app.

Our next event is at Dellwood CC on Sunday June 12. Registration deadline is Sat. the 4th. The club has been kind enough to allow us access to practice rounds which may be scheduled for weekends after 2 PM with a rate of $50 walking. Contact the club at (651) 426-4733.

Just a reminder, the Rules of Golf prohibit practice on the tournament course the day of the tournament.
