National Championships Day 2

105 degrees plus in La Quinta today. Our 10 intrepid golfers hit the course again to try and better their position so they can make a run at the title in the last two rounds Mon. & Tues. Tonight was Casino night at the scoring party.

Round of the day goes to Anthony Hugelen who shot an exceptional 75 in the Hogan flight on the difficult Nicklaus course. His round featured 3 birdies 2 of which came on the back side, his first nine holes, to make the turn at even par 36. His back nine 39 capped off a preset good day despite a bit of trouble on #8, his 17th hole. He currently sits T19 well within striking distance of the leaders. Steve Buan bettered his first round by 3 shots with a 93 now T143. Nate Plagge had a bit of a struggle today but the good news is he can only move up the leaderboard now.

Jeff Gallagher led our Palmer players with an 80 on the Norman course and sits at T29 while Mike Kelley shot an 81 and is now T25. Ben Savage and Dean Sengstock are T87.

Matt Harter rebounded today with a 92 on the Stadium course to move into T85 in Sarazen. He left a few shots on the 18th however as many players have done.

Jeff Loeffler jumped up the Jones leaderboard to 25th with an 87 on the Palmer course. His round featured a birdie on the difficult par 3 15th. Difficult because the green is literally stuck between a rock (the mountains) and a hard place (the canal).

Jeffrey McVay played the Stadium course today and I'm sure he is glad he has that round behind him. He is now in 42nd place. Tomorrow he moves to the Palmer course.

There is a chance of rain in the forecast for the next 2 days so our MN players should feel right at home.
