Naitional Championship Day 3

The dew point rose to 75 today but fortunately the cloud cover kept the direct sun from making it a sauna.

I suspect some of you are wondering if there are any good scores being posted out here. Today the Stadium course hosted the Championship flight players. The leader started the day at 7 under par for the first 2 rounds but shot a 6 over 78. Paul Erdman, of Erie, CO and 2 time National Champion fired a 6 under 66 including a double bogey. He is now just 3 shots back in his bid for a third crown. So yes there are some good scores to be had at PGA West.

Today was Dean Sengstock's turn to lead the MN Palmer boys on the Nicklaus course with an 83. His round featured birdies on a couple of the more difficult par 4s on the course. He now is in a tie for 73rd. Jeff Gallagher continued his steady play with an 84 which puts him T37. Ben Savage also shot an 84 carding 3 birdies in a span of 5 holes. Ben is T76. Tomorrow they come to the Stadium where I am working. It's time to step up and make the shots to improve their position. I hope I get to see some great golf but I know it will be fun to watch them giving it their best.

Anthony Hugelen lived the old adage that it's hard to follow a great round with another. There were certainly lots of moments of good shots on the Norman course today but he suffered 2 doubles and a quad that are simply to much to recover from. His 84 puts him T25 in the Hogan flight which is likely in the money. He needs a good round tomorrow on the Palmer course to close the deal. Steve Buan posted his low round with a 90 that featured one birdie. I'm betting tomorrow he breaks into the 80s. Nate Plagge WILL move up the leaderboard tomorrow.

In the Sarazen flight Matt Harter had another round in triple digits, today on the Palmer course. 2 holes with double digit scores were his nemesis today. If I recall correctly from last year Matt likes to save his best round for last so look for a turnaround tomorrow at the Norman course.

Jeff Loeffler got off to a pretty good start on the Stadium course today in the Jones flight. He was 3 over after 4 holes but then suffered a double on the par 5 fifth. He bounced back with a par on the sixth but had a setback with a triple on 7 and a bogey on 8.. He finished the front with a par on the most difficult hole to turn in 45 and then carded 2 more pars to start the back nine. But then the course took it's toll. He posted a 49 on the back for a 94. This puts him in 27th place but he probably only is 5 shots out of the money. He'll look for those on the Nicklaus course tomorrow morning.

Jeffrey McVay posted his best round of the tournament on the Palmer course with a 95 and rolled up the Snead leaderboard to T35. His round featured 5 pars. Let's hope he has an even better score for the Norman course tomorrow.
