Links at Northfork Recap

Ramsey - A picture perfect day while we paid homage to The Open Championship with a visit to the Links of Northfork. We welcomed two new members and two visitors from other tours as well.

Jeffrey McVay won for a second time this season in the Snead flight with a 5 shot victory over Todd Klocke. Todd overcame a disaster hole on the front side and shot a nice 49 on the back to get to five shots after trailing by 14 on the front.

Vicki Burns also won her 2nd this year by seven shots with an career best 84. She was tied with Hobie VanValkenburg after 9 holes and there were three others within a couple of shots. Vicki ran away from the pack with what has to be her best 9 holes on Tour shooting a 39, 7 pars, 1 bogey and a final hole double.

Fredy Alvear must have found playing alongside the Sr. Sarazen's  to be a calming influence because he cruised to a 6 shot victory over Matt Harter in the Sarazen flight. Fredy gained those 6 shots on the front side and then matched Matt's 39 on the back side.

Ed Favorite in Sr. Sarazen may have been the influence for Fredy as he too shot a 42 on the front side to also lead by 6 shots over Douglas Bird. However Doug regained the lead with a steady 43 on the back nine to win for the second time this season.

Meredith Turner of Sioux Falls is our newest member after having played The Jewel as a guest where she lost in a playoff in the Hogan flight. Today in her first event as a Tour member she wasted no time letting her fellow competitors know she was a force to be reckoned with shooting 39 on the front for a five shot lead and then followed that up with a 41 on the back for an 80 and an 8 shot victory. Welcome Meredith.

The best round of the day, 73, was shot in the Palmer flight. Jeff Gallagher is rounding into form as he preps for Nationals. The front side 37 left Jeff holding only a one shot lead over Eric Broich and 2 over Mike Kelley. His back 9 in even par, 1 birdie and 1 bogie, gave him a 7 shot victory and his 3rd this season.

Matt Broich who recently returned from his attempt at US Amateur qualifying shot a 79 for his 2nd win in Championship flight.

Thanks to Rich Stoker from Chilton, WI and Tams Howard from Sapulpa, OK for taking time out from there summer to play. Also to Doug Kemper for giving us another try as a guest. We also welcome Daniel Kritsberg to the Tour. Daniel plays in the Jones flight.

Vicki Burns hit the daily double by winning the 50/50 raffle and $110. The other half brings our total donation to $585 for Feherty's Troops First Foundation. Thank you so much for your support.

Our next event is next Sunday at StoneRidge. We hope to see you there.
