Finally We Play

Little Chicago, MN - Mother Nature finally gave us a break and we were able to play our first tournament this weekend. Willingers GC played host to the GOLF CHANNEL Amateur Tour. Although the course was a bit soggy they did a great job getting it in shape for our tournament despite historic snow fall in the region.

Dan Geske, of Edina, played steady all day to claim his first Palmer Flight victory, in his very first event, by four strokes over Sean Hazen, of Winnipeg. Despite the difficult conditions and early season Dan avoided most trouble and carded nothing higher than a bogey. Sean unfortunately cracked his new driver on the eighth hole so he played with a bit of a handicap. Dan took home a nice trophy, $125 in Golf Galaxy gift cards and 95 Order of Merit points.

The Sarazen Flight contest was tight. Wayne Scheuermann, of Woodbury, was 3 strokes behind Ed Favorite, of Eagan after the front nine. Wayne was one of only two Sarazen players to shoot a lower score on the back nine to win by one stroke over Ed and George Hardgrove, of New Hope. Wayne claimed the trophy, $125 in gift cards and 105 Order of Merit points. George earned $25 in gift cards for second place, determined by a scorecard playoff.

Visiting family in nearby Lonsdale, Keith Mavity from Byron, IL won the Jones Flight by two strokes over Warren Ferber, of Minneapolis. Keith was 10 strokes behind at the turn but recorded the low back nine score of the day with a 37 to pass Warren. Keith takes a nice trophy, $100 in gift cards and 85 Order of Merit points back home to Illinois. He promises to play again on his next visit to see his grandkids.

Pete Rojas, the pride of the Bronx now living in Champlin, enjoyed the largest margin of victory on the day winning the Snead flight by 8 strokes. He jumped out to a 6 stroke lead on the front nine and never looked back. Pete happily took home a trophy (the picture is already posted on his Facebook page), $50 in gift cards and 65 Order of Merit points.
