Fall Championship @ TPC Recap

Blaine - Fall golf at it's best. 56 degrees, gentle breeze and a pristine golf course make for a great finish to our fall series. 30 players were able to "play where the pros play" at TPC Twin Cities. We had the course to ourselves (no we didn't sneak on). 5 guests were treated to the best we have to offer. I see several new members in our future.

Douglas Bird - Sr. Sarazen
The combined Sarazen, Sr. Sarazen, Jones and Sr. Jones flight had the largest field. 13 players including 4 guests. Jerome Olichwier, visiting us from the Chicago Tour, led after 9 holes with a 43 with MJ Graphenteen, a guest, matching that score and Joe Kuhn, a guest, and brother Jack Olichwier, a guest, only one shot back at 44. Douglas Bird was 3 shots behind at the turn but then started the back nine with 3 straight pars to quickly erase that deficit. The difficult stretch of holes on the back,13-16, took their toll on the entire field but Douglas kept it to a minimum and then rallied with pars on the finishing holes to capture a 4 shot victory.

John Juntilla - Champ
John Juntilla was pushed to his second playoff in a row. This time by Steve Schubert, a Palmer, playing up in the combined flight. Nathan Petersen held the early 3 shot lead over both going out in even par. Jason Rhoades was 5 back at the turn but had the best back nine with a one over 37, coming up one shot short of joining the playoff. John birdied 10 before making a double at 13 and a bogey at 16. Steve was 4 over thru 14 before making birdies on 15 and 18 to match John at 38/77.
Steve and John both made par on the first playoff hole and then John grabbed his 2nd title of the 2017 season in as many events with a par on the 2nd.

Mike Miller - Sr. Snead
The Snead flight contest had Todd Klocke and Mike Miller going toe to toe with Todd holding a one shot advantage thru 7. Mike's par on the par 3 8th gave him a 3 shot lead at the turn. 4 more pars on the back side brought him home in 43 for a 91 and a runaway victory. Perhaps the Jones flight should be looking in the rear view mirror.

Matt Harter - Hogan
The newest member of the Hogan flight wins in just his second event since his promotion just after Nationals. 4 pars on the front 9 had him turn at 42 and a 3 shot lead. Steve Buan and his guest Todd Bimberg made a run at Matt on the back side shooting 44s. Matt birdied the final hole to match with 44 and secure his victory.

Sean Hazen and James Olichwier won the CTP contests.

Douglas Bird also took home $125 from the 50/50 raffle. Our total for 2017 is now $295. Thanks for your continuing support of Feherty's Troops First Foundation.

Special thanks to Deb Alexander and Val Loeffler for taking a day off work to run this event.

The feedback for the tournament was unanimous in favor of returning to TPC next fall. If you haven't already seen it, our schedule for next year is online. I'll be adding fall events later. I expect to add a Challenge event between us and the KC Tour in mid
July.

Thanks for a great 2016 and start to the 2017 season. I look forward to next year. See you in April!
